Tuesday Snippets

It's another rainy day in Vancouver. The lineup for the UBC non-stop bus were reasonably short when I got there this morning. But that changed quickly. I saw one sight-impaired person passing in front of the lines. Which wasn't too strange. But then another passed by, followed by another. Three sight-impaired people tapping their way passed the lines in a span of about 5 minutes is rather odd, I would say. I'm not one for superstition, but clearly this is an omen.

On an unrelated note, I had to return Chan's PS2 today. He was gracious enough to lend it to me while his whole wedding/honeymoon extravaganza was going on. Being the classy guy I am, I briefly contemplated returning him an equivalent-weighted rock. But Chan's a bright guy. He would have figured it out within a week or two. Also, Victorious Boxer 2 was being just a little too victorious over me.

On yet another unrelated note, we finally got word on how much our stock options are worth. I'm still a bit sad that our company was bought out by our biggest competitor, but that's the way business is run. I'm glad that our options aren't worthless, but I can't say much else. The first rule of our stock options, is you do not talk about our stock options. The second rule of our stock options is...

... you get the idea.

We gained an hour??!

The way this weekend went by, it was hard to believe we gained an hour by "Falling Back".

After a long week for both Cath and me, we passed out on Friday, without even eating dinner. Which we needed.

The rest of the weekend was pretty Jam packed though. Saturday morning, we went for our first Beginners Dance Lesson. There, I had the pleasure of discovering that my right foot was really just another left foot, as we stumbled through the Cha Cha. What was even better, was the whole switching of partners bit. Nothing better than confusing each and every new partner, and having them carry this confusion over to their next partner. I am looking forward to next week's lesson.

After the dance lesson, we ran a bunch of oh-so-exciting errands. But we got to stop by the SPCA, which we should probably not have done. It's hard to see dogs caged up like that, and know that you can't really take one home.

Once we got home, we relaxed with a Horror movie, since it was Halloween weekend. We watched Pet Sematary, which was a bit of a disappointment. I'd heard that it was pretty scary from a good buddy of mine. Mind you, when he saw the movie, he was in his early teens. Some movies just aren't as scary when you're older. I think I get more scared looking at my monthly bills.

On Sunday, after finishing off my work from Saturday (damn that job of mine), we went to celebrate Chrissy's birthday. It was a very casual affair, but it was nice to see everyone again. We hadn't seen Cathy's parents, Chrissy, and Aunt Janet in a while. Happy Birthday, Chrissy!

We also went on a Haunted House trolley ride, where we got driven around town and passed various rumoured Haunted Houses, as a guide told us the stories. We stopped by one of the cemetaries, which was neat, but somehow felt kinda wrong. Shouldn't we be respecting the dead, instead of parading tours through them? Having said that, I still snapped photos like a tourist. Hey, we paid our $25, so we might as well get pictures! We also stopped by the Police museum, which is located inside an old Morgue/Forensic Lab. There, we had a guide describe autopsies in some detail. Cathy didn't like that too much. Me, I wanted to actually see a real autopsy. So much for respecting the dead... All in all the tour was kinda fun, but I wish we would have gotten a little booklet of all the Ghost stories described in the tour. It felt a bit tamer and commercial than I had hoped, but maybe I was expecting too much. It was still fun, but part of me wonders whether this is what people do when they feel too old to go on Halloween Pubcrawls...

Anyway... Happy Halloween, everyone!
